2. How do I find lead-free dishes, glasses and mugs?

Dishes/Crockery: White, uncoloured tempered glass or clear glass dinnerware is lead-free, the safest choice. These are brands like Luminarc, Arcoroc, Bormioli Rocco, Corelle, etc. You can find them at Briscoes, Countdown and Southern Hospitality, various places online. The styles with coloured designs on them are likely to be lead-free but may contain trace amounts of cadmium.

Glasses: Avoid any paint on glass. Plain, unpainted cheap glass is usually lead-free. Sets of tumblers at Briscoes and Kmart are good value.

Mugs: Plain glass mugs are the only reliably lead-free option. The thick clear glass ones work great and aside from not being visually stimulating, are excellent alternatives to ceramics. Double-walled insulated glass mugs are lead-free as well, but take care to avoid painted logos.
